Objectives
General Objective
Produce professionals with scientific and technical skills to develop studies, research and projects in the area of water resources aiming at their proper use, to guarantee, in this way, social, economic and environmental sustainability not only in the state of Mato Grosso, but also in other regions of the country. Such a professional will also be able to work in the teaching of topics related to water resources.
Specific Objectives
- To characterize, quantitatively and qualitatively, the availability of surface and underground water resources;
- To quantify and qualify the transport of sediments in natural runoff and erosion processes and analyze their relationship with land use and occupation;
- To investigate the effects of concentrations of pollutants on living organisms and establish a standard for the use of indicator species of environmental quality aimed at human health;
- To investigate the physical and hydric behavior of the soil and rocks in surface geodynamics processes;
- To apply geophysical methods to determine the physical and hydric behavior of soils and rocks;
- To investigate land use and management measures that contribute to reducing ground and surface water pollution;
- To determine the behavior of biocides in tropical environments, to validate and propose mathematical models that allow the extrapolation of information to environments other than those studied;
- To organize and integrate information from different sources to support the planning and management of water resources and contribute to the definition of public policies
- To characterize effluents of different industry types looking for treatment processes, reuse in the production process, release into water resources and procedures to reduce pollutants at the source;
- To investigate water and sewage treatment technologies, through unit processes and operations, aimed at the design of water and domestic sewage treatment plants;
- To examine ecological alternatives in sanitation, practices and perspectives of ecosan and sanitation technology of the future (decentralized systems);
- To apply microbiological processes in the treatment of water and sewage, and in pollution, studying the sanitary significance of microorganisms and microbiological quality standards.
- To study techniques for designing projects, operation and maintenance of basic sanitation facilities in order to incorporate limitations and field reality.
- To investigate problems and difficulties in hydraulic structures, identify alternative solutions and optimize their operation based on mono- and multi-criteria analysis.
- To produce teachers and researchers to meet quantitatively and qualitatively the needs of higher education and the labor market in the area.
